Vidzeme - cinema

The Madona Cinema opened its doors on November 6, 1962 as an up-to-date cinema with two cash registers and 352 seats. The first movie shown at the cinema was “Spring for the Girls” (Meiteņu pavasaris). At the time, it was a highly special movie with stereo sound. During those days the Madona District Cinema Directorate had its office within the cinema; the Directorate organized cinema sessions throughout Madona district. More than 60 employees worked in the Madona District Cinema Directorate as cinema mechanics, their assistants, cashiers and drivers. The cinema sessions were held in 46 locations in Madona district. The Madona District Cinema Directorate closed its doors in 1992 when each municipality started to take care of cinema activities in its city or town.

On September 1, 1995 cinema “Vidzeme” became a branch of the City of Madona House of Culture under the same name.

Currently cinema “Vidzeme” is equipped with up-to-date digital technology devices. It has the latest Barco 2K projector and Dolby 3D system. The auditorium has 186 seats.
