Route "Gaiziņš hills"

Vestiena Protected Landscape Area (27,150 ha). The protected area was established in 1977 in order to preserve and protect the landscape of Vidzeme Highlanda and its nature diversity. The area is characterized by multiform ecological environment with beautiful mosaic landscapes.

Gaiziņkalns Nature Park (area 2026 ha).The area was established in 1957 in order to protect the hilly landscape of Vidzeme upland and lakes, their natural and cultural values. Beautiful landscapes with the scenery characteristic for Vidzeme highland. Gaiziņkalns Recreation Center, telephone 26251669, www.gaizinkalns.lv  Is located at the southern foot of Gaiziņkalns. Services: accommodation, sauna, camping, picnic grounds, swings, parking, a stand-map of Vidzeme. Gaiziņkalns viewing trail starts at the recreation centre.

Gaiziņkalns Viewing Trail. The trail is about 2km long. It crosses the highest Latvian hill - Gaiziņkalns (311.6 m above sea level). Its most importance is the panoramic view, which opens at the four slopes: "Ladies Paradise", "Western Slope", "Little Calvary" and "Golgotha". On the peak there is an old watchtower, a witness of history that should not be climbed. The trail is negotiable only by foot, in its separate sections there are climbing stairs. If you do not want to go the whole trail, but just enjoy the climbing, then it would be interesting to do it at Calvary slopes. This site is the steepest one with a magnificent view of the panorama of Lake Viešūra  and the neighbouring Nut Hill, nowadays usually kown as LIDO Hill.

 Located at the northern foot of Gaiziņkalns. Services: "Tarzan" attractions (air cableway) and "UFO" (tubing downhills into the pond), a café, accommodations, sauna, camping, picnic grounds, swings, car parking areas. The viewing can be started from this side of Gaiziņš as well.

Education and entertainment program Adventures in Wolf Hill Wood, telephone. 26141853. The program is offered by the State Forest Service Consultation Centre Pakalnieši. Nature trail "Animal House", role-playing dressing game Adventure in the Great Wood, treating with forest food. Boats, tents, campfire.

Vestienas Manor and Park, telephone 64871850, 29231860, www.vestiena.lv The manor first mentioned in historical sources in 1452. A rural bastion was in the place of the present Vestiena Manor. In 18th century there was built Vestiena Manor. The moats were transformed into picturesque ponds. Currently in the former manor house is located Vestiena primary school. Services: tours through the manor and park and the surroundings of Vestiena.

Jāņkalni Farm, telephone 29169291. The holding cultivates blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cranberries and rhubarb in large areas. Services: Tours through the farm, plants, berries and berry products for sale. Coming from Vestiena side farm crops are seen, but the entrance is the only asphalt road on the coast of Lake Kala.

Apareni Natural Organic Farm, telephone 29538610. Apareni hostess demonstrates to tourists and tells about her hobbies: the poultry collection and the landscape garden. The poultry collection includes 170 different birds.

Ielāpi Resting Ground, telephone 29227504. The offer: swimming, boat rentals, licensed fishing, camping, picnic grounds, accommodation, sauna.

Piekūni wandering paths, telephone 29416180, www.piekuni.lv The trails go into the local environment, accompanied by a guide, the beginning of the holiday home-bathhouse "Piekūni". The hiking goes through the energetic places of Gaiziņkalns Nature Park and leads up to the Latvian second highest peak - Sirdskalns (297m above the sea level) and includes visiting a beaver farm. The wandering can be finished with the bath ritual in Piekūni bathhouse. The bathing ritual lasts 2-4 hours.

Pelādes Country House, telephone 29174945. In Pelādēs there is a Memorial Room with an interactive message about one of the most original Latvian poets - Aleksandrs Čaks (1901. - 1950th). Music, movies, poetry. Offer: trout fishing, accommodation, sauna.
