Autumn holidays in Janis Norvilis Madona Music School turned out to be especially bustling – the international competition for young pianists for the first time took place in Madona from 27 - 29 October. 26 contestants from both Latvia and Lithuania applied for it. The contest was held simultaneously with the continuing education seminar for piano teachers who along with the participants, their parents and pedagogues brought around 120 people not only from Latvia, but also Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Poland.

This is the year of Janis Norvilis (1906-1994) 105^th anniversary. Madona Piano Prize Janis Norvilis International Competition for Young Pianists is a tribute to folk tunes in different genres for piano solo and piano ensemble.
